Is there Wi-Fi?
Given its rural location, there is light Wi-Fi access through a mobile dongle which we supply with passcode on request. However, please be aware that this is really suitable only for checking emails and Google searches.
Visitors who require large bandwidth for live-streaming and other data-intensive internet applications will be better served in the nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick where broadband services are better.
If you wish to check coverage with your mobile provider, the postcode is CA13 0RQ.
Are logs for the fire included?
Yes, we supply logs for the living room fireplace.
What are check in and check out times?
We ask visitors to check out at 10am on the Saturday changeover day when the cleaners arrive. It is much appreciated if beds are stripped prior to departure.
Check in on Saturday is from 3pm up to 10pm. Guests are welcomed and shown around in person. If possible, please let us know your expected arrival time when booking. Any problems, just give us a call on 01900 85 638.
Can we request non-feather pillows and duvets?
Yes. All linen and towels are supplied and non-feather bedding is available on request. Please let us know in advance if non-feather bedding is preferred.
Does the property share facilities with other cottages?
No. There is a house next door where Mr & Mrs Hudson are on hand to provide help if need be. Their approach is to be unobtrusive and visitors are free to enjoy the cottage and large garden at their leisure.
Is Brow Farmhouse difficult to find?
We provide detailed instructions when the booking is confirmed and suggest these are printed out before setting off.
In particular, we recommend visitors do not rely on SatNav once in Lorton Village as it tends to direct people to a different property which shares the same postcode.
Is the cottage dog-friendly?
Our sincere apologies but dogs and other pets are not allowed.
Where is the nearest supermarket?
Milk, basic groceries and handicrafts can be bought at Lorton Village Shop in High Lorton during opening hours.
The nearest town is Cockermouth with Sainsburys, Aldi, Co-op, Boots, Wilkos and a wide variety of other shops. For visitors coming via the M6, there is the option of shopping in Penrith (Junction 40) where there are larger stores of Morrisons, Sainsburys, Booths and Aldi. Another alternative is Booths in Keswick.
Where is the nearest hospital / doctor?
Out of hours: Cumbria Health on Call 3000 247 247 or: Accident & Emergency, West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, 01946 693181
